Carsten Burhop studied Economics and History. He received his PhD in History at the University of Bonn in 2002 and his second PhD in Economics at the University of Muenster in 2005. His PhD thesis deals with the emergence of universal banks in Germany during the 1870s. Since then, Carsten Burhop regularly published papers in financial history, mainly looking at banks, stock markets, and corporate governance in Germany between the 1870s and the 1930s.
